When thinking of getting your first baby, one of the things that you may be worried about is how you are going to take care of them as you work. This is something that is very important in this day and age since most people take their careers very seriously. However, the impression that you may need to give your child a lot of attention means that this may be difficult in the first few months of their lives.
However, this does not have to be the case. You don’t really have to sacrifice your career for the sake of taking care of your child when they are young if you don’t want to. There are many things you can do to ensure that you get the best of both worlds as far as providing adequate care and working are concerned. These include:
Try to change your work schedule
You could try to organize your work in such a manner that you can spend more time with your child if you want to. For instance, you could explore the possibility of working from home with your employer. When your job mainly involves doing paper work and if you don’t really need to meet clients face to face, you can easily start telecommuting. This way, you will spend most of your time at home with your child and also make sure that you get all your work done. Other benefits of this include the fact that your life will be more convenient since you won’t need to worry about issues such as commuting.
Another strategy you could try is to go to work but then spend less time there. For instance, instead of having to work for seven hours each day, you could work for three or four and then carry extra work to do at home.
Get some help
If this is not possible, you could also try to get some help. For instance, you could try to find a nanny who can take care of the child when you are off to work. This is the most common method of providing adequate care for your baby and still retain your job.
The basic thing you need to remember here is that if you are a new parent, you don’t really need to worry about juggling both child care and your career. There are many tried and tested methods of getting both done, such as the ones mentioned above.
